Cash For Clunkers

Check out this link for a list of car in good condition being destroyed as per the requirement for the cash for clunkers program.

This program combines the alarming economic ignorance of democrats with the religious zeal of environmentalists to showcase just how inane government programs can truly be. Its laughable to think that some people honestly believe that it’s justified to waste all these automobiles simply to reduce co2 emissions. How stupid do you have to be to honestly believe something that ridiculous is worth the cost?

1: High levels of air pollution are a public health hazard
2: The program stimulates purchases of new vehicles
3: Fuel inefficient vehicles wind up driving up the cost of gas for everyone
4: I think the program would be better off if we had done it more like the similar German program - that is, let the cars find their way to developing nations. That way, you can trade the vehicles for some other resource, but they are no longer polluting your cities.

Hilariously enough the cost and environmental damage caused by creating a new car still far outweigh those of using an old one. Hooray government!

  3. Michael Says:

This program is awesome if you’re an auto manufacturer.

  4. Dan Says:

True enough Boose, but the idea (correct me if I’m wrong here) is that this program is going to help the auto manufacturers survive until the economy recovers enough that they can stand on their own?

Now, one can argue that this may be a broken window parable, but I think its a bit of a mischaracterization to suggest that the only point of the program is environmental.
