What About This Boose
How do you like this gun control policy?
My first recommendation is that every state pass a Conceal Handgun law; one that requires not only a full background check, but also a significant amount of training. In Texas, I feel the training requirement (10 hours) should be doubled. But every state should have a similar law.
Then, if any business (except bars and clubs) wants to enhance security very cheaply, all it has to do is place very large, prominent signs near all entrances with the following, then abide by its contents:
All Concealed Carry License holders Are Welcome!Show your Concealed Carry License and Receive 5% off!
Sign me up. Heck with those kind of discounts I might have to get myself a gun.

All it requires is the purchase of the gun (say $300), $140 for the state licensing fee, $120 and 10 hours for training class, passing said class, and a full background check for felonies or domestic violence convictions. If you think all of that is worth going through for a 5% discount, have at it.
The fact is, it took a gun in the hands of a well trained volunteer to put an end to this lunatic’s rampage. In a situation like that, you have one of two things you can be; a gun owner or a victim. Some of us choose the former.

yep that would work. But instead what if people were allowed to get guns only if they passed a background check (no training required). But the discount card required that you went through training. I bet a bunch of people would do it, and a bunch of people wouldn’t dream of drawing their gun if they knew people around them had one too.

I’m pretty sure that almost every person who’s ever gone on a shooting spree would have passed a background check- they’re ussually decribed as ‘quiet, kept to themselves, etc’ so I don’t think they ussually have criminal records. Also of ourse all the school shootings were done by teens who stole their Father’s guns or whatever. The fact is as long as guns are all the hell over the place, any crazy person can get one, and as long as guns are legal they can carry it down the street to their target without fear of interference.
Mike: The argument of “you have one of two things you can be; a gun owner or a victim” is extremely unconvincing. By that argument, you should carry a parachute every single time you fly, carry a defribrilator with you at all times with an instruction manual for bystanders, etc. There are only two differences between carryiong those thigns and carrying a gun: 1. those thigns are much more likely to actually come in useful some day and 2. You (or your kids) are much more likely to accidentally kill yourself/themselves/someone else with a gun than with those other things.
