Survery On Entertainment Preferences
Michael sends me this link to a Zogby survey showing the viewing preferences of different political groups. Its an interesting read.
Advertisers may be surprised to discover that a great place to capture moderates is on Fox News, where over 27% of moderates tune in daily. Unlike conservatives, though, moderates watch all the broadcast networks, and, like the liberals, NBC is their favorite, with 37% watching daily.

Here’s a fun game - I’ve cut out the section about genre preferences, and replaced the political terms with X, Y, and Z. If you didn’t know the context of these findings and didn’t know it had anything to do with politics, which groups or type of people would you guess for X, Y, and Z?
-While X are more likely than all other respondents to watch action adventures and business and sports programming, that’s exactly the programming that Y are less likely to watch.
-While Y are more likely to be found watching drama, comedy, documentaries, and arts and educational programming, those are the genres that X are more likely to avoid.
-X viewers are more likely to watch action-adventure, sports, and business programming than Z or Y.
-Out of 15 TV and film genres, “arts” emerged as the one with the highest positive correlation to Y viewers and the highest negative correlation to X viewers. In other words, while 48% of Y prefer arts programming, only 17% of X do. At the other end of the scale, less than 5% of Y say they do not like the genre at all, compared to almost 25% of X.
-Cerebral material like documentaries and arts and educational programming all appeal more to Y.
-And what shows do Y skip? If it’s a game show or reality programming, they probably don’t watch it.
-Compared to other respondents, Z are more likely to watch children’s and daytime programming.
