No Way This is the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals
From Volokh:
U.S. Magistrate Judge Wayne Brazil issued a temporary injunction against the CSU system Wednesday, in which he struck down a portion of the CSU conduct code that mandates students “be civil to one another.” That language would likely not survive First Amendment scrutiny at trial, the magistrate found.
“It’s fine to say, ‘We hope you’re civil to each other,’” Brazil said from the bench. “It’s not fine to say, ‘We’ll punish you if you’re not.’”
Liberals whine about your rights being taken away from you by the Bush administration but are largely silent at the appalling measures some university’s have taken to squelch free speech. This all comes out of that multiculturalism dreck.
By the way if you want to see ‘tolerance’ and ‘multiculturalism’ gone horribly wrong check out the University of Delaware. What was the administration thinking?

while the College Republicans were within their 1st ammendment rights to hold that rally the way they did, they were certainly being douche bags about it.

Thing is, liberals are more concerned about laws, which are backed up by people with guns, than they are about college policies at institutions that students are free to avoid or choose among. This exactly follows your libertarians positions of curbing government coercion (defined solely as violent coercion) and not interfering with free markets (which the college system mostly represents, since there’s competition between institutions).
So I’m not sure why you’re upset.

Liberals are more concerned about laws than libertarians? What are you kidding. I can see someone arguing that all political parties are equally concerned about laws but to argue that liberals are more so than other groups is bizzare. Republicans are the ones known for their stodgy inflexible application of the law. Liberals are all about breaking the rules and finding exemption to the law. These are the comedic stereotypes. Take for example the sequel to Meet the Faulkers.
Stereotypes aside, it turns out the speech codes are a violation of the law which is precisely why libertarians care. Universities that receive funding from the federal government must respect its student’s rights. This is akin to the federal laws that state a institution must not discriminate according to race if its is receiving federal funding. Clearly you would be against funding institutions that violate the 14th amendment why are you nonchalant about instance when university violate the first amendment?
