Enabling Monopolies

Democrats are introducing legislation to enable corporate monopolies. That way the can get reelected later on by criticizing those same corporation’s monopolistic power. Yet another example of how the state plays a pivotal role in bringing about monopolies. State enabling is rarely a part of the evil corporate narrative.

Now Senator Fritz Hollings (D-S.C.), whom some call “the Senator from Disney” for his solicitude toward entertainment interests, has introduced new legislation that would require that all electronic devices contain built-in copy protection equipment, whether buyers want it or not. I would call this an outrageous gift to the entertainment industry, except that it’s not a gift at all: They paid top dollar for it, with nearly $300,000 in contributions to Hollings last election cycle and similarly large contributions to the bill’s cosponsors coming from the entertainment industries.

What are you talking about? State enablement of monopolies and evil corporate policies is ALWAYS part of the narative- the part called ‘lobbyists’.

This is why I want campaign finance reform. If you agree that corporate money in politics tends to lead to monopolies, then I’m not sure why you, as a libertarian, are against it.
