Strikes Me As Unwise

Apparently woman in the Kashmir region between Pakistan and India are arming themselves as a way to protect themselves from Islamic militants. This strikes me as an incredibly foolhardy move. Guns are dangerous and someone may be shot accidentally. This will also make it easier to gain access to firearms for those that would do unjustified harm. Its better to rely on the authorities, some might say experts, to protect you from religious fanatics in a remote area.

Putting sarcasm aside, this is what the second amendment is all about. Guaranteeing your right to protect yourself from anyone you believe would do you harm. Having the right to arm yourself gives you the ultimate freedom to protect yourself and those you love. It’s a statement about who is responsible for your safety and preservation. A statement that says at the end of the day, you are.

Careful with the crazy talk. Your government is looking out for you and will be there after you dial 911. Calm down.

Once again, me am pragmatist; I bet the ratio of successful self-defense cases to accidental fatality cases is much more favorable Pakistan than it is in the US. Frankly, the symbolism of the whole thing just doesn’t impress me when kids are accidentally shootnig each other.

You know just the other day I was reading about some kids that accidentally drowned in a backyard pool. Some other kinds were killed in a car accident. In a freak accident a couple summers ago several children die accidentally while snow sledding. On what ground do you distinguish between these accidental deaths and accidental death by gun?

  4. Trampage Says:

When those kinds start driving nails into fenceposts like Audry Murphy. Or when they start driving a gun to get to school (Barretta dosen’t count) or using your gun to transport food over the frozen tundra.

  5. Trampage Says:

Did you hear about the child that was wearing their mother’s gun to go to the bathroom and it accidently went off and the child drown. Or how about the Child that was riding to school and was hit by a stray drive-by bullet. Or how about the child that found a father gun and shot his friend off his snow sled in Florida.

  6. steve Says:

Counter argument regarding functionality fail. That is to say arguing guns should be banned because they serve no purpose and are also a liability in causing accidental death is a poor argument. Guns provide several different benefits but the one sufficient for this discussion is personal protection. Backyard pools provide what many would consider a much less important purpose.

I’m not really into the whole gun control thing, but I must chalenge you hear Steve. Show me a statistic that says owning a gun provides you more personal safety and a longer life. These don’t exist. Once you buy a gun you are much, much more likely to die of a gun. This is a fact.

  8. steve Says:

This post show this precisely. These woman have acquired firearms to fend off attacks from fanatics. I suspect the numbers will land in my favor.

  9. Jamie Says:

    Still waiting….

  10. Jamie Says:

Are you in favor of legalized prostitution as well?

  11. steve Says:

Prostitution should not be illegal. legalized prostitution will probably need some regulation though, which im sure i will get flack for saying so.

  12. Jamie Says:

That’s great. BTW, I’m still waiting for the numbers in your favor.

  13. Dan Says:

Wait, you want the government to regulate prostitution? What kind of libertarian are you? Won’t that just introduce corruption and unnecessary bureaucracy?

  14. steve Says:

    Thanks for the flack.

  15. Dan Says:

    You are welcome.
