Democratic Representative

has to explain to liberals how democracy works. Given there stance on other issues, *cough*Iraq*cough*, *cough*Universal Health care*cough* its unsurprising to find out they are ignorant of how representative government operates.

Hardly exclusive to idiot liberals…. Idiot republicans exist as well. Including those that go against those that they represent to continue squashing stem cell research because “their” god told them to do so. Oh wait…. Isn’t that what GW does?? Hmmm… I didn’t mean to call him an idiot. That would just be plain unoriginal.

In point of fact, Bush’s constituency is very much against stem cell research. He is not going against his voter base which is who elected him.

  3. Jamie Says:

That is not what current polls say - even among republicans that voted for Bush. Reagan made many of them see the light and they changed their postion. Sentiment is different than it was in 2000 when it first came up. Americans are allowed to be educated and change their mind. Their representatives need to track these changes, not blindly dictate because they think it’s in their god’s best interests.

Wow…. I hate data. It really sucks. I guess this doesn’t count though as maybe the poll was designed by experts.

Well technically Bush is accountable to the majority every four years. What did his constituency say in 2004? I got good money on them being against it.

  6. Jamie Says:

What??? You think are politiicans are to base all policy decisions on the opinions of their consituents at the time of election?? Even if public sentiment due to further knowledge advancement has changed? You are joking, right? Instead of just saying for once that W is wrong, you are resorting to this argument? Really?

All im trying to say is that a politician actions are to be accountable only to enough people needed to get him elected to office. For a politician already in office, if he or she is wise, they will vote in accordance with the majority of those in their constituency, otherwise they will be vote out of office.

Can a politician once in office ignore the majority position on some topic? Surely, but the more often they do this the more likely they will not be reelected. The closer that politician to an election the closer their views must match the majority of likely voters.
