RIAA Proves Darwin Correct

The Consumerist has a list of all the federal representatives that receive money from the RIAA. I’m somewhat skeptical of $1,000 having any kind of appreciable effect on influencing a legislator’s vote either way, but whatever. Given Darwin’s outrage at how the system enables US citizens corporate lobbyist to influence legislators I’m sure he will send a message to each one letting them know how they ruin democracy by letting the lobbyists use constitutionally protected speech corporate propaganda to influence how they vote.

  1. Darwin Says:

Actually the list tops at $9,000/year, but whatever.

Listen, you have to choose your position here, because you keep flipping it. Tell me which of these you believe, and I’ll respond:

    1. The small campaign contributions and lobbying efforts of these corporations aren’t enough to sway government officials into doing things their constituents would disaprove of.

    2. It’s ok for people and corporations with alot of money and power to influence government officials into doing things their constituents wouldn’t approve of. That’s free speech, and they’ve proven how smart they are by virtue of having alot of money, so we shouldn’t get all upset about it.

Let me know which is your actual position (or else actually delineate your own position) and I’ll respond to it.
