Giving Lobbyists More Control

Monday, August 10th, 2009

While this flash somewhat scarecrows the results of bureaucratic decision making it does make a solid point that government run health care gives more power to less people allowing lobbyists more control over health care.

If you support campaign finance reform as a means of preventing lobbyists from controlling government than surely you would oppose state health care as this would provide a massive amount of opportunity for lobbyists to influences politicians.

What Monopoly on Coercion Means

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Often times when I talk about the state’s monopoly on coercion I speak about in terms of literraly forcing people to do things they don’t want to do. However, through it’s monopoly the state can break many rules. For example in California, the state is paying for goods it received via IOU’s but then refuses payment with IOU’s on the sale tax owed by those goods.

Small businesses that received $682 million in IOUs from the state say California expects them to pay taxes on the worthless scraps of paper, but refuses to accept its own IOUs to pay debts or taxes. The vendors’ federal class action claims the state is trying to balance its budget on their backs.

When you have a monopoly on coercion you can make up any set of rules you want. In this case the sate can declare an IOU to have value and then remove that value when it suits the state’s need. Honestly, how can anyone claim that on the whole, the state is less dangerous than corporations? Corporation can’t make up the rules as they go like the state can.
